Cryotherapy, topical imiquimod combination may be effective in cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma
Treatment with a combination of cryotherapy and topical imiquimod appears to be effective in patients with cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma, and compared to other treatment modalities, relatively low risk, according to a study.
In this study, researchers included data from 9 patients with cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma who received combination therapy of cryotherapy followed by topical imiquimod 3 times a week for 2 months.
During a median duration of follow-up of 58 weeks, 93% of lesions and 89% f patients experienced complete resolution.
Reported side effects included pain during cryotherapy, occasional blister formation after cryotherapy, and mild inflammation due to imiquimod.
No infections were noted.
