Ocular manifestations of sarcoidosis not common

Posted on

Few individuals with pulmonary sarcoidosis experience ocular manifestations, according to a study in Clinical Ophthalmology.

In this retrospective consecutive case series, the medical charts of 108 individuals with sarcoidosis were included. Of those, 14 had ocular manifestations, with a mean age of 56±15 years. The majority were female (71%), with 50% and 21% were black and Hispanic, respectively.

Of those with ocular manifestations, 12 had uveitis, with panuveitis being the most common subtype, and 5 had ≤20/70 vision in at least one eye due to uveitis. Neurosarcoidosis was a risk factor for ocular sarcoidosis
