HCV-infected kidney transplants possible after pre-operative DAAs

Patients without hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection who received pre-operative glecaprevir-pibrentasvir (Mavyret) prophylaxis were able to safely receive a kidney transplant from HCV-positive donors, according to a study published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
In this small single-center study, 10 HCV-negative patients who received kidney transplants from HCV-positive donors had no detectable viral RNA 7 days post-transplants. Viral RNA was undetectable for the 12-week follow-up period.
