Physician burnout was high before, now it’s worse
More than 40% of physicians reported experiencing burnout before the pandemic and that number is more than likely going to rise after it. In a recent article for Fierce Healthcare, one expert discussed ways for physicians to address and combat burnout.
Felicia Speed, senior director of social work services at Fresenius Medical Care North America, wrote, “Addressing burnout starts with confronting it directly, especially from leaders at the top, who can help recognize its pervasiveness and acknowledge the many ways it manifests.”
Some tips she suggests for combating burnout includes:
-Not being afraid of feeling emotions
-Grieving your own circumstances is important
-Leaning on peers in real time
-Separating yourself from the day-to-day problems
-Accepting what is beyond control
