Major journals called-out for self-citation which boost rankings
A number of journals have been suppressed from the annual Web of Science Journal Citation Reports (JCR) due to excessive journal self-citation, according to a press release. Self-citation can boost a journals’ rankings.
Clarivate announced that 33 journals have been suppressed from the 2020 report and Editorial Expression of Concern has been issued for 15 journals.
Editorial Expression of Concerns are issued when a small number of articles in a journal have a high number of citations to articles in the same journal. These journals will be monitored more closely.
Some major journals, including JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, which has an Impact Factor greater than 10, were flagged, according to a report from Retraction Watch.
Publishers for some of the journals include Elsevier (9 suppressed), Springer Nature (7), Taylor & Francis (6), and Wiley (5).
