GoFundMe for health care institutions? Most Americans say ‘no’
People in the United States do not want health care institutions to encourage or solicit philanthropic donations from patients, according to a study in JAMA.
After surveying 513 individuals weighted to be representative of the US population, 37% said a doctor providing patient names to the hospital for fundraising purposed without first getting permission was definitely or probably acceptable. The majority of patients—83.2%– said they felt physicians talking with their patients about donating may interfere with the patient-physician relationship.
