Growth Hormone Deficiency

Weekly injectable therapies should be considered in patients with GHD

Posted on

Due to the burdensome nature of daily injections of recombinant human growth hormone for the treatment of pediatric growth hormone deficiency (GHD), weekly regimens should be considered an effective alternative when missing daily injections would hurt treatment outcomes, according to a study.

Researchers conducted a targeted literature search which identified 13 articles that described the experience of patients moving from a daily injection to a weekly injection. Patients who switched to less frequent injections reported greater convenience and satisfaction, higher adherence rates, fewer adverse events, and improved quality of life. The study indicated that less frequent injections were at least as effective as daily treatments.
