Disruptions in cancer care, research will have long-term effects, Fauci says

Closures caused by the pandemic are predicted to result in a projected 10,000 additional deaths from breast and colorectal cancer over the next decade, according to a keynote address from, Anthony Fauci, MD, the director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the AACR Virtual Meeting: COVID-19 and Cancer. Dr Fauci cited a recent editorial from National Cancer Institute Director Ned Sharpless, MD highlighting the potential impact on cancer related deaths.
In addition to delayed treatment, Dr Fauci highlighted the impact on the research community which has closes labs and halted clinical trials.
