How does treatment center volume impact overall survival in sarcoma?

Posted on

Being treated at centers with the lowest volume was associated with reduced overall survival in patients with Ewing sarcoma, according to a study published in Pediatric Blood Cancer.

Patients treated at centers with the highest volumes had improved overall survival, but researchers note that this appears independent of radiotherapy timing.

Delays in the treatment of localized Ewing sarcoma are known to impact overall survival. The authors speculate the lower overall survival at the lowest volume centers was the result of higher rates of delayed local therapy.

The authors conclude that that care across treatment centers need to be improved.
