Complete resection best option for pulmonary metastases in STS
Complete resection of pulmonary metastatic lesions in patients with soft tissue sarcomas appears to be the most effective method for long-term survival, according to a study.
In this study, researchers analyzed data from 8 retrospective studies including 1004 patients with pulmonary metastases and metastasectomy. Leiomyosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, and synovial sarcoma were the most common histological types. Overall, 5-year survival ranged from 20-58% with fewer metastases, longer disease-free interval, and R0 resection resulting in better survival in most cases.
